Arsenal plot ambitious swoop to sign Real Madrid’s Guler
Arsenal are reportedly planning to launch an ambitious swoop to sign Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler, as per a recent report.
After joining Los Blancos from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in 2023, he struggled with fitness problems in his debut season before playing as a rotational option under former manager Carlo Ancelotti in the following campaign.
However, under Xabi Alonso’s guidance, he has secured his place in the first XI this term. He made three goal contributions in six Club World Cup appearances last summer. This season, he has scored three goals and registered seven assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.
Now, as per a recent report (via the Evening Standard), although Real Madrid hold the Turkish international in high regard, Arsenal have not been put off and are ready to make a concrete approach to secure his services.
Arsenal are planning to sign him on a loan deal in January before purchasing him permanently next summer, similar to their acquisition of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid a few years ago.
The 20-year-old is valued at around £78m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2029. So, Los Merengues aren’t in any rush to sell him this year.
Güler is a left-footed creative midfielder, similar to Odegaard, but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Moreover, he can provide cover on the right flank if needed.
Guler to Arsenal
He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing, is efficient in taking set-pieces, and also has the ability to score goals from distance.
Guler is one of the best young talents in the world and would be a great coup for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him. However, Arsenal already have Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, and Ethan Nwaneri as options to deploy in the No.10 position.
Therefore, Arsenal don’t need to invest big money to add further depth to this position. Instead, they would be better off saving the money to reinforce other areas of the squad.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in signing Guler in this winter transfer window.
