Arsenal eye move to sign Juventus star Kenan Yildiz
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz, as per TEAMtalk.
After beating Crystal Palace on penalties in the Carabao Cup quarter-final in midweek, the Gunners are set to face Chelsea in the semi-final over the two legs. In the other semi-final, the defending champion Newcastle United will take on Manchester City.
Next weekend, Mikel Arteta’s side will face off against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League before ending the year vs Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.
In the meantime, the winter transfer window is set to open next week, and clubs have already started reinforcing their squad. Manchester City are Arsenal’s closest title challenger this season and are close to finalising a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal also want to reinforce the attacking department and have identified Yildiz as a serious option. They have been monitoring his situation closely before making a potential swoop.
Although the Turkish international still has a contract until 2029, Juventus want to hand him a new deal with a salary hike, and the player wants a financial package worth around £5m-a-year.
Negotiations over this deal have stalled in recent weeks, with Juventus focusing on appointing a new sporting director. They are finally close to appointing Marco Ottolini, and it is expected to become clear soon whether the Bianconeri want to keep hold of their star man by matching his demands.
Yildiz to Arsenal
If an agreement can’t be reached between the two parties, Yildiz might leave Juventus, even though his priority is to stay at the Allianz Stadium.
The report say that apart from the Gunners, Chelsea and Tottenham are also in this race and they are showing more concrete interest in sealing the deal.
Juventus have displayed inconsistent performances thus far this season, but Yildiz has taken his game to another level, making 13 goal contributions across all competitions.
He is a left-sided forward by trait but is also comfortable in the creative midfield position. Arsenal currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard for the left flank, but the Brazilian has found it difficult to perform at his best in the Premier League thus far.
On the other hand, Trossard has entered his 30s. So, Arsenal could do with signing a new forward next year.
