Arsenal make contact to sign Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes
Arsenal have reportedly made contact over a deal to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per TEAMtalk.
After moving to the Estadio Bernabéu from Brazilian side Santos back in 2019, the 24-year-old established himself as a key starter, guiding them to win every possible major competition over the years.
However, following Kylian Mbappe’s arrival last year, he lost his importance in the Spanish giants’ starting line-up during the final few weeks of last season.
As a result, he was heavily linked with a move away last summer, and Arsenal were said to be interested in him. However, a move eventually didn’t materialise, and he stayed at the Spanish capital.
He remained on the periphery for the first few months of this term under Xabi Alonso. But having impressed vs Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this month, he has been featuring regularly in recent games, making three goal contributions in the last three starts in the Champions League and La Liga.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are planning to make a statement left-wing acquisition in January as Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard’s long-term future isn’t secured at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners were interested in Rodrygo last summer and remain keen on him. They have even made contact with intermediaries over a potential January swoop.
Rodrygo to Arsenal
Apart from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in him and have also held talks to seal the deal, while Liverpool are in this race as well.
Rodrygo was open to moving away from the Estadio Bernabéu in January, having failed to find regular game time. However, after recently holding talks with the club and Alonso, he has now agreed to stay until the end of this season.
Therefore, it would be difficult for Arsenal to secure his service next month, and if they fail to buy the Brazilian, they are ready to make a move to other targets to bolster the left flank in mid-season.
Rodrygo is valued at around £52m by Transfermarkt and still has two and a half years left in his current contract. So, Real Madrid aren’t in any rush to sell the 24-year-old in January.
