Arsenal have reportedly accelerated their efforts to sign Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler, as per Caught Offside.

After moving to the Bernabéu from Turkish giants Fenerbahçe a couple of years ago, the 20-year-old struggled with fitness problems in his debut campaign.

Having returned to full fitness, he featured as a rotational option under ex-manager Carlo Ancelotti last term, making 13 goal contributions across all competitions.

However, the youngster has established himself as a key starter for Los Blancos under Xabi Alonso this season, scoring three goals and registering seven assists in 22 appearances in all tournaments thus far.

Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal hold a long-standing interest in the Turkish international, believing he would be an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s system and viewing him as an alternative to Martin Ødegaard.

The Gunners are planning to step up efforts to sign Guler; however, purchasing the youngster won’t be easy, as Liverpool and Manchester United are also keen on him.

The Merseyside club are showing the most active interest in sealing the deal as they have identified him as the perfect option to replace Mohamed Salah.

Guler to Arsenal

However, the report suggest that Real Madrid have no intention of parting ways with Guler, valued at around £52m by Transfermarkt, with his existing deal set to run until 2029. Therefore, Arsenal will have to launch a lucrative proposal to persuade the Spanish giants to cash-in.

Guler is a left-footed creative midfielder like Odegaard, but is also capable of providing cover on the right flank if needed. Moreover, he is comfortable in the box-to-box role.

The Real Madrid star is a top-class player and possesses high potential, so he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services.

However, after purchasing Eberechi Eze last summer, Arteta currently has a strong No.10 department with Ethan Nwaneri also an option. So, Arsenal don’t need to spend big to add further depth to this position next year unless anyone leaves.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the North London club will eventually make a concrete approach to sign Guler next year.
