Arsenal showing ‘genuine interest’ in signing Adam Wharton

By on December 11, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly showing ‘genuine interest’ in signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

After allowing Thomas Partey and Jorginho to leave for free last summer, the Gunners decided to revamp the midfield department by signing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.

The Spaniard has established himself as a key starter, while the Dane’s role is to provide cover for the former Real Sociedad star. Norgaard has signed a short-term contract until 2027 at the Emirates Stadium, and there is an option to extend the deal for one more year.

So, it appears Arsenal have already started exploring options to replace the 31-year-old. Fichajes state that Mikel Arteta wants a new technically gifted young defensive midfielder, and Arsenal are showing a ‘genuine interest’ in signing Wharton.

The 21-year-old still has three and a half years left in his current contract at Selhurst Park, and they have no intention of letting him leave next year. However, Arsenal would be able to change Crystal Palace’s stance should they submit a formal proposal worth around £87m.

The report claim that Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Manchester City are also keen on purchasing him, while Tottenham Hotspur have already held talks with Crystal Palace to learn about the details of signing him.

Moreover, Manchester United are in this race and are planning to submit a formal proposal worth around the figure that is demanded by the South London club.

Wharton to Arsenal

Wharton has enjoyed a successful time at Crystal Palace since joining from Blackburn Rovers last year, winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

Moreover, he has been guiding his side to push for a finish in the Champions League spot this season, sitting fourth in the Premier League table with 26 points from 15 matches. Having showcased his qualities for Crystal Palace, Wharton has secured his place in the England national team.

The midfielder is still very young and possesses the potential to become world-class in the future. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to sign Wharton in January or next summer.
