Arsenal keen on signing Chelsea target Murillo
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea target and Nottingham Forest star Murillo, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Since moving to the City Ground from Brazilian side Corinthians a couple of years ago, the 23-year-old has established himself as an undisputed starter.
He helped his side secure European football last term and has been displaying solid performances this campaign as well, scoring in last weekend’s Premier League match in which his team beat Liverpool at Anfield.
Now, Fichajes state that having been impressed by the Brazilian’s displays in the English top flight in recent years, Arsenal have identified him as a ‘top target’ to reinforce the centre-back position.
However, Forest have no intention of parting ways with their key man just yet, with his existing deal set to run until 2029. Therefore, they have slapped a whopping £79m price tag on his head to fend off potential suitors.
The report claim that Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in the South American as Chelsea and Barcelona are also plotting a swoop. But the Blaugrana might find it difficult to seal the deal by paying the asking price amid their financial difficulties.
Murillo to Arsenal
Murillo is a technically sound left-footed centre-back. Although he isn’t the tallest of players, he is quick, extremely strong, and good in the air. The defender even has excellent ball striking power.
The Nottingham Forest star is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, he would be a great asset for any club around the world.
However, Arsenal decided to reinforce the centre-back position by purchasing Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié last summer. As a result, they are currently well-resourced in the defensive department with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes also in the squad.
Therefore, the North London club don’t have to spend big to sign a new defender next year unless anyone leaves. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service in January or next summer.
Meanwhile, following a comfortable 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last weekend, Arsenal will face off against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
