Arsenal eye move to sign Elche CF’s Rodrigo Mendoza

By on November 19, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Elche CF star Rodrigo Mendoza, as per a recent Spanish report.

After ranking through the Spanish side’s youth system, the 20-year-old made his first team debut back in 2022. He helped his side gain promotion last term and has been playing a key role in Los Franjiverdes’ quest for survival in La Liga this season.

In 10 appearances across all competitions, the youngster has scored two goals. Elche are currently in mid-table with 15 points from 12 matches in La Liga, sitting five points above the relegation zone.

So, it appears Mendoza’s recent eye-catching performances haven’t gone unnoticed. The Spanish report (via Sport Witness) claim that Arsenal have registered their interest in Mendoza and have been following his development closely before making a potential swoop.

The 20-year-old has a contract until 2028 with Elche and has a £17m release clause. Apart from the Gunners, Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Como have also expressed their interest in the youngster.

Mendoza likes to be deployed in the box-to-box midfielder role but is also comfortable in the No.10 position if needed. He is a technically gifted player and is efficient in dribbling past opposition defenders in tight areas.

Moreover, the Spaniard is efficient in playing threading passes between the lines and also has an eye for long-range passing. He is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.

However, Mendoza is still very young and needs time to develop his career. So, there is a question mark whether he is ready to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions yet.

The Gunners decided to reinforce the midfield department by signing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard last summer. As a result, Mikel Arteta already has the duo plus Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, and Ethan Nwaneri to cover three midfield positions.

So, Arsenal don’t need to buy a new midfielder next year unless anyone leaves. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to sign Mendoza in January or next summer.
