Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva has urged his former club to sign Real Madrid outcast Rodrygo Goes next year.

With the winter transfer window only a few weeks away, the rumour mill has started linking the Gunners with numerous players from all around the world, including the Brazilian.

The 24-year-old’s future has taken a drastic turn in recent months. He was a key player for former manager Carlo Ancelotti, but he lost his importance during the final few months of last season.

As a result, he was heavily linked with a move away from the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu last summer, with Arsenal mentioned as one of his potential suitors. However, the North London club never made a concrete approach, and the player eventually opted to stay at the Spanish capital.

This season, his situation hasn’t improved at all under the new manager, Xabi Alonso. So, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging once again.

During a recent interview (via Metro), Silva states that Rodrygo is a ‘great player’ and it’s a waste of his qualities for him to spend time on Real Madrid’s bench.

The 24-year-old is comfortable playing anywhere across the frontline, and if he isn’t happy at Los Blancos, it would be the right decision for Arsenal to buy him to add further depth in the attack, which is already well-resourced.

Rodrygo to Arsenal

Silva said:

“It is clear he[Rodrygo] will not have much of an opportunity to play under Xabi Alonso at Madrid, but he’s a great player with real talent, which is a waste if he is on the bench – but obviously there is big competition at Arsenal as well.

“He’s got the ability to perform not only from the left side but in other positions across the forward line as well. Should Arsenal go in for him? Why not. If he’s not happy and there is an opportunity to increase the strength of the squad, then we can try and get him.”

Rodrygo still has two and a half years left in his current contract, so the Spanish giants are in a strong position to demand a big fee for him and want around £70m.

Although the Brazilian has been struggling to find regular game time in recent months, he previously showcased his qualities at the highest level, helping Real Madrid win every possible major trophy over the years.

Therefore, his acquisition would upgrade Arsenal’s left side if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually listen to their former player’s advice and make a concrete approach to purchase him next year.
