Arsenal battling with Euro giants to sign Etta Eyong
Arsenal are reportedly battling with European giants over a deal to sign Levante forward Etta Eyong, as per a recent Spanish report.
The Gunners have been enduring never-ending problems with the striker position this year. Gabriel Jesus has been out injured since the beginning of this year due to a serious knee injury, while Kai Havertz has also had fitness issues in recent months.
Initially, he sustained a hamstring problem last year; as a result, he remained sidelined for the second half of last campaign. The German returned to action at the start of this term and played as a substitute against Manchester United in the opening Premier League game.
However, having sustained a fresh injury, he has been sidelined for several weeks. Viktor Gyokeres was purchased to strengthen the centre-forward position last summer, but he has also picked up a muscular issue.
Therefore, Mikel Arteta was forced to deploy Mikel Merino once again up front in the last two matches. Although he helped the Gunners win by scoring a brace against Slavia Prague, Arteta’s side only managed to come away with a draw against Sunderland last weekend.
Arsenal won 10 consecutive matches across all competitions before dropping points vs the Black Cats. Now, as per a recent Spanish report (via Sport Witness), Arsenal are planning to buy a new striker next year, and Eyong is on their radar.
Eyong to Arsenal
The 22-year-old has burst onto the scene, having enjoyed a productive start to this season in La Liga, scoring six goals and registering three assists in 12 appearances.
As a consequence of that, he has attracted the attention of Real Madrid and Barcelona alongside the Gunners. CSKA Moscow have even launched a formal proposal to secure his service, but the player only wants to play in La Liga or the Premier League at this stage of his career.
Arsenal are showing the ‘most interest’ in signing him and could make a concrete approach in January or next summer. The forward has a release clause of around £26m for the Spanish clubs and £35m for teams around Europe.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
