Arsenal to make ‘bold’ move to sign Rodrygo Goes
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a ‘bold’ move to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per Football Insider.
With the winter window just a few weeks away, speculation about the Brazilian’s future has started emerging following his struggles to break into Xabi Alonso’s starting XI this campaign.
The 24-year-old has started only three games across the Champions League and La Liga thus far, featuring for more than 80 minutes on just one occasion.
Now, Football Insider state that Rodrygo is willing to leave Los Blancos in January to play regularly and secure his place in the Brazil national team for next summer’s World Cup.
Arsenal have identified the South American as a serious target to reinforce the attacking department and are planning to make a ‘bold’ move to purchase him.
Manchester City were interested in him last summer, but eventually didn’t make a concrete approach after managing to keep hold of Savinho. On the other hand, Liverpool also expressed their interest in the Brazilian, but never made a formal move.
Arsenal were also looking at Rodrygo last summer, but didn’t make a move as Real Madrid wanted an extortionate fee to let him leave. Ideally, Alonso’s side don’t want to weaken their squad in mid-season.
Rodrygo to Arsenal
However, Arsenal might be able to lure the South American away from the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in the upcoming winter window if they make an offer of around £90m.
Rodrygo is a top-class player despite his recent struggles. He is comfortable on either flank and can also provide cover centrally if needed.
Arteta likes to have versatile players at his disposal; therefore, the former Santos star would be a great coup for the North London club should they eventually manage to secure his services in January or next summer.
However, considering the forward’s recent situation at Real Madrid, Arsenal shouldn’t spend the reported fee to seal the deal. Instead, they would be wiser to negotiate a lower fee.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Gunners make a concrete approach to purchase him to bolster the frontline.
