Arsenal open talks to sign PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz
Arsenal have reportedly opened talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After moving to Parc des Princes from Napoli back in 2022, the Spaniard initially displayed inconsistent performances. However, he has established himself as an undisputed starter since Luis Enrique’s arrival as the manager.
The 29-year-old performed excellently last term, helping his side win the treble. Moreover, he guided Spain to win the European Championship last year.
Ruiz even played a key role in Les Parisiens’ run to the Club World Cup final this summer. The Spaniard has enjoyed a bright start this season, making three goal contributions in eight appearances across all competitions thus far.
Now, Fichajes state that Mikel Arteta is looking to create a Spanish identity at Arsenal, so having already got David Raya, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, Martin Zubimendi, and Mikel Merino, the Gunners are willing to sign Ruiz.
The midfielder has entered the final two years of his current contract, and PSG don’t want to lose their key player. So, they are looking to extend his deal until 2029.
Ruiz to Arsenal
However, the player desires to move to the Emirates Stadium, and Arsenal have already opened preliminary talks to seal the deal as Arteta believes he would be an ‘ideal’ option to play in his system. PSG have slapped a £44m price tag on his head if they are forced to cash-in on him.
Ruiz, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a technically gifted left-footed midfielder. He likes to play in a box-to-box role but is also comfortable in a double midfield pivot role.
The PSG star is a top-class player and could be a great coup for Arsenal should they manage to lure him away from Parc des Princes in January or next summer.
However, Arsenal already have Zubimendi, Norgaard, Merino, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, and Ethan Nwaneri for the midfield position. So, they don’t need to invest more to upgrade this position further unless someone leaves.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
