Arteta praises Mosquera and Hincapie after solid Brighton display
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Cristhian Mosquera and Pierre Hincapie for their impressive showing in the EFL Cup win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
The defensive duo started together for the first time and helped the Gunners secure a comfortable 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium, sending them into the quarter-finals of the competition.
The Gunners took control of the game in the second half, with Ethan Nwaneri opening the scoring after a fine team move.
Bukayo Saka later sealed the win with a well-taken goal, confirming Arsenal’s spot in the next round.
Arteta made several changes to his side for the fixture.
The Spaniard rotated heavily, making ten changes from the team that defeated Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Only Eberechi Eze kept his place from that match, as the manager opted to give opportunities to other members of the squad.

Mosquera and Hincapie were among those handed rare starts, and both players made strong impressions.
Their understanding at the back ensured Arsenal maintained control and restricted Brighton’s attacking threat.
Speaking to Arsenal.com after the match, Arteta was full of praise for the pair and their ability to adapt quickly despite never having played together before.
“They had never played together, so to build that chemistry, it takes time,” he said. “I think they have done really, really well today.”
The Arsenal boss went on to commend Hincapie for his commitment and readiness, especially as it was his first start for the club.
“Again, for Piero especially, he has not played that many minutes to have his first start with the club,” Arteta explained.
He also reflected on the importance of the performance and what it means for the squad moving forward.
“Again, a lot of positives to take, some very big learnings as well that we have to be very cautious of,” he continued. “But overall, a great night.”
The victory highlighted Arsenal’s growing squad depth and the quality of their young talents, many of whom stepped up when given the chance.
With a place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals vs Crystal Palace secured, Arsenal will now turn their focus back to the Premier League.
The Gunners travel to Turf Moor next, where they face Burnley as they aim to continue their strong run at the top of the table.
