Arsenal plot swoop to sign Montpellier youngster Megnan-Pavé
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Montpellier youngster Laciné Megnan-Pavé, as per French outlet L’Equipe.
Although the Gunners have been trophyless for more than five years, they have established themselves as one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League under Mikel Arteta’s guidance.
They narrowly missed out on winning the league title in the last three consecutive campaigns, while they reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League last season. The North London club are the favourite to become English champions this term.
Alongside the development of the first team, Arsenal have been producing top-class young talents in recent years. After ranking through the Hale End academy, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe, and Eddie Nketiah secured their place in Arteta’s squad.
However, only Saka is still at the club with Smith-Rowe and Nketiah playing for Fulham and Crystal Palace, respectively. Furthermore, Ethan Nwaneri has been included in the first team squad after progressing through the youth system, while Max Dowman has also been given the opportunity to feature for the first team, despite still being just 15.
Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi were also products of Arsenal’s youth system, showcasing signs of their high potential. However, they decided not to stay and opted to join Manchester United.
Megnan-Pavé to Arsenal
Now, L’Equipe report that Arsenal are aiming to add more talent to their youth system and have identified Megnan-Pavé as a serious option. They have been monitoring his development closely at Montpellier before making a potential swoop.
The youngster is still just 15 and hasn’t signed a professional contract with the French side yet. So, it would be an easy deal for Arsenal should they make a concrete approach.
However, Montpellier don’t want to lose him just yet, and Barcelona have expressed their interest in him as well. Therefore, it won’t be straightforward for the North London club to secure his services.
Megnan-Pave is an attacker and made 27 goal contributions in 24 matches across all competitions for Montpellier’s U17 team last term. This season, he has been playing for U19, well above his age group.
The youngster is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they eventually manage to sign him next year.
