Arsenal eye Montpellier wonderkid Laciné Megnan-Pavé
Arsenal are keeping tabs on Montpellier youngster Laciné Megnan-Pavé, according to reports from L’Équipe.
The North London side, known for spotting promising prospects, are considering the 15-year-old as their next youth addition.
The Gunners recently secured the signing of Victor Ozhianvuna from Shamrock Rovers and remain keen to add more young talents to their academy ranks.
Their latest target, Megnan-Pavé, is regarded as one of the most gifted teenagers in France and continues to make swift progress at Montpellier.
Megnan-Pavé has been moved up quickly through Montpellier’s youth system.
He now plays with the Under-19 side, despite being several years younger than many of his teammates.
His performances have made him a key figure in the club’s long-term plans.
Last season, while playing for the Under-17 team, he scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists in just 24 appearances.
His creativity and confidence on the ball have earned him a place in France’s Under-16 squad, showing how highly he is rated at national level.
Montpellier face battle to keep their young star
Montpellier see Megnan-Pavé as one of their most valuable academy products and are determined to keep him at all costs.
The club has reportedly placed great importance on protecting him, describing the teenager as a “jewel” of their academy.
However, several top European sides, including Barcelona, are showing strong interest.
Both Arsenal and Barcelona have built reputations for nurturing young players, which makes the competition for Megnan-Pavé even more intense.
Montpellier’s financial struggles could make it difficult for them to resist offers.
The club’s relegation to Ligue 2 last season has placed added pressure on their finances.
As a result, they have already sold three promising youngsters for less than £1.8 million to Watford, Marseille, and Udinese.
They are now determined not to repeat the same mistake with Megnan-Pavé.
Discussions over a possible new contract are expected, aimed at securing his future and preventing him from being poached by bigger clubs.
Arsenal and Barcelona will continue to monitor the teenager closely.
Both clubs believe he has the potential to develop into a major talent in the years ahead.
For now, Montpellier remain focused on polishing their prized young forward, hoping he can one day make the step up to the senior team.
