Former Arsenal star Jeremie Aliadiere has said that there is nothing to worry about Viktor Gyokeres’ recent goal drought in the Premier League.

Having struggled with the centre-forward position last term, the Gunners decided to address the issue by purchasing the Swedish international from Sporting CP for a £64m fee this summer.

The 27-year-old was the highest-scoring striker in the last two seasons in Europe, so it is completely justifiable why the North London club opted to buy him. However, the forward has endured a slow start to this season, scoring three goals in eight Premier League appearances.

He netted twice against the newly promoted side, Leeds United, and scored the other goal against a struggling Nottingham Forest team. But he has failed to find the back of the net in the last four consecutive league matches.

Now, during a recent interview (via Metro), Aliadiere was asked whether it is a worrying sign that Gyokeres has found it difficult to score goals in the Premier League, and the ex-forward stated that there is nothing to worry about yet.

The Swede has been working hard during the games, creating spaces for others to exploit. He has been getting used to playing with new teammates and tactics; the goals will come, and when they do, they will come in a flood.

Aliadiere said:

“I know how it feels to be a striker and to be judged on scoring goals. If he wasn’t working hard, and he didn’t know what to do, I’d be a bit more concerned. I feel the goals will come – and when they come – they’ll come fast. He’s getting used to playing with new teammates in a new system. It won’t be a problem.”

Although Gyokeres hasn’t been able to find his goal-scoring form yet this season, Arsenal have enjoyed a stellar start, sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 19 points from eight games.

Manchester City are currently second with three points less. Liverpool are considered the closest rival of Arsenal for the title, but they have been struggling in recent weeks, having lost three successive league games.

While Gyokeres may be struggling to find the net in the Premier League, he rediscovered his form in Europe after bagging two in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

Mikel Arteta will hope the strikers display in the Champions League will boost his confidence with Gyokeres now aiming to end his PL drought against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
