Mosquera compares Arsenal’s Max Dowman to Lamine Yamal
Arsenal summer signing Cristhian Mosquera has revealed that young talent Max Dowman reminds him of Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal.
The 21-year-old Spanish defender joined the Gunners during the summer transfer window in a £13 million deal and has quickly adjusted to life in London.
Since his arrival, Mosquera has featured eight times for Arsenal across all competitions and continues to settle in well under Mikel Arteta.
The young defender, known for his calmness and maturity on the ball, has adapted swiftly to the Premier League’s demands.
Speaking to The Athletic, Mosquera could not hide his admiration for 15-year-old Max Dowman, who is regarded as one of England’s most gifted young players.
“I do not mean to compare, but his style and way of playing is like Lamine Yamal. His movements are Lamine-esque,” Mosquera said.
The Spaniard explained that he was surprised by the teenager’s talent when they first met during Arsenal’s pre-season tour.
“I did not have him on my radar and when I got to Singapore, he was already training and playing,” he continued.
“When they told me he was 15, I could not believe it. He really is an incredible player, and I think he is going to be world-class.”
Arteta’s influence in Mosquera’s Arsenal move
Mosquera also reflected on the key role Mikel Arteta played in convincing him to join Arsenal.
He revealed that the manager’s confidence and approach during their talks made a lasting impression on him.
“Arteta played a very important role,” Mosquera said.
“In the conversations I had, a very quick rapport was established between the coach and me. The confidence with which he spoke to me, that assurance, was what made me decide.”
He added that Arteta’s trust was clear from the beginning.
“Above all, he spoke to me with such confidence. He said he saw me as capable, that I was exactly the profile he needed.”
Mosquera, who currently captains Spain’s Under-21 side, hopes to continue his growth under Arteta’s guidance.
The young defender aims to help Arsenal challenge for the major trophies that have narrowly escaped them in recent seasons.
His maturity, leadership, and belief in the team’s project have already made him a respected figure in the dressing room, despite being one of the club’s latest arrivals.
