Arsenal scout eyes next Alexis Sánchez in South America
Arsenal’s South American head scout, Jonathan Vidallé, has sparked fresh excitement among supporters after speaking about his ambition to discover another Chilean talent like Alexis Sánchez.
The former Argentine footballer, who previously played in Chile, revealed during an interview with ADN Deportes that he is determined to identify the next big name from the region.
Vidallé explained that his role covers several South American countries, including Chile, and that he hopes to find players capable of shining at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal enjoyed great success with Sánchez, who joined from Barcelona in 2014. During his time at the club, the forward became one of the most influential players of the Emirates era.
His energy, work rate, and skill made him a fan favourite, while his 80 goals in three and a half seasons helped Arsenal secure two FA Cup titles.
Vidallé praised Sánchez’s impact but admitted that finding players of that quality is now more difficult.
“Chile is one of the countries I cover, and I would love to bring another Alexis Sánchez to Arsenal,” he told ADN Deportes. “However, the current level of young players is not the same as before. The quality coming through has dropped, and they must improve a lot.”
Arsenal’s ongoing search for new talents
The Gunners have made it a habit under Mikel Arteta to invest in young, emerging players who can be developed into world-class performers.
Rather than relying solely on big-money transfers, Arsenal have focused on identifying prospects with potential and shaping them to fit the manager’s tactical demands.
This approach has helped the club remain competitive both in the Premier League and Europe while maintaining a balanced budget.
Vidallé’s scouting work across South America forms a crucial part of this strategy, as the continent continues to produce technically gifted footballers with natural flair and hunger to succeed.
Despite admitting that Chile’s talent pool is not as strong as it once was, Vidallé remains hopeful of uncovering the next South American star who can follow in Sánchez’s footsteps.
His mission reflects Arsenal’s continued commitment to smart recruitment and long-term squad building.
With scouts like Vidallé keeping a close watch on developing talent, Arsenal’s quest to find the next Alexis Sánchez is far from over.
