Arsenal cruised their way to a 2-0 lead at halftime, crushing the Tottenham fans’ dreams of stopping Arsenal’s record; however, a slower half for the Gunners allowed Spurs to pull one back in the 62nd minute, which wasn’t enough, even with a late leveller in added time from a Keane penalty. Arsenal triumphed, becoming the first and only team to win the Premier League without suffering a single loss, making this 2-2 draw with fierce rivals one of their greatest results in the 21st century.
Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona
European nights at the Emirates Stadium were electric in 2011, with massive hopes from fans that Arsenal could go all the way and claim their first-ever European trophy. However, after drawing one of the strongest teams in the world in the round of 16, it looked like they were about to witness a thrashing on their own soil in North London by a young Lionel Messi and a prime Barcelona squad. Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona featured stars that dominated every team they came up against, and it looked as though it may be the same story when David Villa put the Spanish club 1 goal ahead within half an hour. After a few changes from Wenger, in the 78th minute, Van Persie found the net, raising hope in the Arsenal fans. However, a goal from Arshavin just 5 minutes later left Barcelona perplexed, allowing Arsenal to take a 2-1 advantage at the Camp Nou. Despite the Barcelona comeback to a 10-man Arsenal in the second leg, the night was incredible and had the Emirates bouncing, sending a message to the big European clubs that Arsenal were there to challenge with the best.
Real Madrid 0-1 Arsenal
Real Madrid is arguably one of the greatest clubs of all time, dominating in Europe, especially when it comes to playing in the prestigious Santiago Bernabeu. In fact, in 2006, Real Madrid had never lost to an English team at home, making Arsenal’s journey one of the toughest journeys they would make all season. For a good portion of the match, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal held Real Madrid at bay, when Henry scored one of the most incredible solo goals in the 47th minute, a goal that has been watched time and time again, handing Real Madrid their first defeat to an English club in home territory. What made this moment even better was that the Gunners took Real Madrid to Highbury and maintained a 0-0 draw, despite Los Blancos’ dominance. The campaign ended up taking Arsenal to the final to face Barcelona, which they played with only 10 men for the majority of the game, only narrowly being defeated 2-1 in Paris.
