Arsenal have suffered a fresh blow as Martin Odegaard has been withdrawn from the Norway national team due to an injury sustained against West Ham United last weekend.

The former Real Madrid man has had a stop-start season thus far owing to recurring injury problems. He initially picked up a shoulder issue against Leeds United in the second Premier League game; thankfully, that issue wasn’t anything serious, and he managed to return quickly.

He picked up another shoulder problem vs Nottingham Forest last month, as a consequence of that, the 26-year-old was sidelined for a couple of weeks.

However, the midfielder picked up a fresh injury in the last game against West Ham and was taken off before the interval. As a result, he has been withdrawn from the Norway national team for this month’s international fixtures.

Arsenal have stated that Odegaard has suffered a medial collateral ligament injury and is set to be assessed and treated by the club’s medical team at Sobha Realty Training Centre over the coming weeks.

The Norwegian, valued at around £74m by Transfermarkt, has been one of the most important players for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta. So, if he remains sidelined for an extended period, that would be a huge blow for the Gunners.

Arsenal suffer huge injury blow

However, Arteta’s side have bolstered the midfield department by signing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard this summer. Moreover, they also have Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, and Ethan Nwaneri.

Eberechi Eze is also capable of providing cover for Odegaard. Therefore, the captain’s absence shouldn’t create a huge void in the north London club’s starting line-up.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have had numerous injury problems during the first couple of months of this season. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have been on the long-term injury list, while new summer signing Noni Madueke has sustained a knee problem and is set to remain sidelined for a few weeks.

On the other hand, Bukayo Saka, Norgaard, William Saliba, and Ben White have all had fitness problems this season; thankfully, they are all fit and available at the moment. Still, Arsenal have continued to perform well so far this season, sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 16 points from seven games.
