Arsenal will travel to Vale Park to face off against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup third round tonight.
The Gunners will be coming into this game off the back of a 1-1 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend. As a result, they have found themselves five points behind league leader Liverpool.
On the other hand, Port Vale have had a poor start to this season, sitting only one point above the relegation zone in League One.
Team news
Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have been out with their respective problems and aren’t in contention to be involved tonight. On the other hand, Noni Madueke sustained a knee injury vs City and is set to remain sidelined for two months.
Bukayo Saka was unavailable over the last few weeks; thankfully, he has returned, but may get a rest in midweek. Ben White and Christian Norgaard were out with their respective problems, but were available last weekend after recovering from their injuries.
Martin Odegaard has been struggling with a shoulder problem and is unlikely to be involved in this game. Unfortunately, Piero Hincapié has sustained a groin issue and isn’t available for this game.
Predicted line-up
Mikel Arteta should continue with his preferred 4-3-3 formation, but is likely to make wholesale changes to his starting XI. Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to make his Arsenal debut in goal tonight, meaning David Raya would be among the substitutes.
Cristhian Mosquera and William Saliba might be the centre-back pairing for the Gunners in this game. So, Gabriel Magalhaes would get a breather. White and Myles Lewis-Skelly could be the two fullbacks. In that case, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori would be among the substitutes.
Norgaard may make his Arsenal debut like Kepa, while Mikel Merino might be alongside the Dane in the engine room. Ethan Nwaneri could be in the creative midfield position for the North London club. So, Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, and Eberechi Eze should be on the bench.
Gabriel Martinelli is expected to commence on the left flank after scoring in the last two games, while Max Dowman could make his first start for Arsenal on the opposite side. Leandro Trossard may lead the line for Arteta’s side, meaning Viktor Gyokeres and Saka may feature off the bench if needed.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Port Vale:
Kepa; White, Mosquera, Saliba, Lewis-Skelly; Norgaard, Merino, Nwaneri; Dowman, Trossard, Martinelli
