Arsenal face setback in Arda Guler transfer chase
Arsenal’s hopes of signing Arda Guler have suffered a serious setback, with the Turkish international now seen as an important figure for Real Madrid.
Reports from Football Insider state that Arsenal’s pursuit of the 20-year-old has hit a major obstacle, as he has now become a vital part of the squad under Xabi Alonso.
Mikel Arteta’s side have admired the young midfielder for some time. The Gunners boss views him as a player capable of adding creativity and depth to his attack.
The North London club have followed Guler closely since he joined Madrid from Fenerbahçe in the summer of 2023, but his development at the Spanish club has changed the situation.
Guler’s progress under Xabi Alonso
During his first months at Madrid, Guler – valued at £39m by Transfermarkt – found it difficult to secure regular minutes.
His lack of playing time encouraged several clubs, including Arsenal, to monitor him closely ahead of a potential swoop next year.
The picture, however, has changed since Xabi Alonso took charge at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The new coach has placed his trust in Guler and given him more opportunities on the pitch.
The youngster has responded with strong displays this season, recording two goals and one assist in six appearances so far.
His contributions have shown his growing importance to the Madrid side.
That rise in status has created a significant problem for Arsenal, who were hopeful of tempting him to the Premier League.
His improved standing under Alonso makes any move away from Madrid far less likely.
Arsenal must now look elsewhere
With Guler no longer considered available, Arsenal will need to look at other targets to strengthen their squad.
Arteta’s team still want to add an attacking player who can also provide creativity in midfield.
The challenge now lies in identifying the right alternative, as their main target has established himself as a key figure in Spain.
The north London club will be forced to shift their focus to different options before the next window.
Guler’s rise in Madrid highlights how quickly situations can change in football.
Arsenal may now have to accept that their long chase for the Turkish star is over.
