Arsenal player ratings from 1-1 draw with Man City

By on September 21, 2025

Arsenal grabbed a dramatic point against Manchester City in the Premier League, with Gabriel Martinelli netting a stoppage-time equaliser after coming off the bench.

City had taken an early lead when Erling Haaland punished sloppy defending, finishing coolly from Tijani Reijnder’s pass in the ninth minute.

Arsenal responded late, ensuring the spoils were shared in north London as Martinelli raced clear to lob Donnoruma from an Eberechi Eze ball over the top.

The draw means Arsenal sit five points behind early leaders Liverpool, having won three, drawn one and lost one in their opening five fixtures.

Arsenal player ratings: defence and midfield

David Raya (6/10): Produced a fine save to deny Haaland in the second half but was helpless for the opener.

Jurrien Timber (6/10): Struggled against the lively Jeremy Doku and was replaced by Martinelli late on as Arsenal chased an equaliser.

William Saliba (6/10): Making his first start after injury, he looked cautious, and his hesitation contributed to Haaland’s early breakthrough. Was otherwise sold.

Gabriel Magalhaes (6/10): Stepped too high up the pitch, leaving Saliba exposed as City struck first, but was commanding otherwise.

Riccardo Calafiori (6/10): Always looked to push forward, showing intent both on the overlap and when drifting inside.

Martin Zubimendi (6/10): Kept the ball moving calmly but could not outshine Rodri. Substituted late in added time for Mosquera.

Mikel Merino (5/10): Failed to make an impact in midfield and was withdrawn at half-time for Eze.

Declan Rice (5/10): Usually delivers in big matches, but this was a quiet outing by his standards.

Arsenal player ratings: attack and substitutes

Noni Madueke (6/10): Looked bright in a dull first half but was replaced at the interval for Saka after picking up a knock.

Viktor Gyokeres (4/10): Struggled badly to hold up play, link with team-mates or threaten in attack. Starved of service.

Leandro Trossard (5/10): A surprise inclusion from the start, he improved after the break but was taken off for Nwaneri late on.

Bukayo Saka (6/10): Returned from injury at half-time and injected early energy, though his influence faded.

Eberechi Eze (8/10): Made a huge difference after coming on, capping his performance with a brilliant assist for the equaliser.

Gabriel Martinelli (8/10): Once again decisive from the bench, providing the crucial leveller deep into stoppage time with a superb finish.

Ethan Nwaneri (N/A): Played the closing minutes after replacing Trossard.

Cristhian Mosquera (N/A): Introduced in added time for Zubimendi.
