Arsenal have suffered a double injury blow ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

After finishing second in the last three consecutive Premier League campaigns, the Gunners are aiming to finally become the English champions this season.

To achieve that, they signed eight new players by spending around £270m this summer. They even enjoyed a promising start to this season, winning the first two games before losing to Liverpool just before the international break.

However, the biggest stumbling block for Arsenal in achieving their goals this term could be injury problems. They suffered with fitness problems last term and have faced similar challenges at the beginning of this season.

Gabriel Jesus has been sidelined, having sustained a serious knee injury last term, while Kai Havertz recently sustained a knee injury and is set to remain sidelined over the coming weeks.

Ben White was unavailable against Leeds United and Liverpool after starting against Manchester United in the opening Premier League game. On the other hand, new summer signing Christian Norgaard hasn’t been named in the matchday squad in any game thus far due to an unspecified problem.

Double injury blow

Now, Sky Sports report that White and Norgaard have returned to full training ahead of the Forest clash, while Piero Hincapié has also started training with his new teammates following his deadline-day move from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Saliba and Saka weren’t pictured in training and are expected to be unavailable this weekend. Saka picked up a hamstring problem versus Leeds United, and while the injury is not believed to be serious, it was hoped he would recover during the international break. However, he isn’t ready to return yet.

The Englishman sustained a hamstring problem last term and was sidelined for several months, but this time the injury is in the other leg. On the other hand, Saliba was substituted very early against Liverpool last month after he picked up an ankle problem during the warm-up.

Similarly to Saka, it was hoped he might be able to recover during this two-week break, but that is unlikely to be the case. So, his absence would be the biggest blow for Arsenal. Now, Cristhian Mosquera will have to step up and fill the void of the Frenchman.

Mikel Arteta would be hoping that Saliba and Saka will be able to return before next weekend’s Premier League encounter against Manchester City.
