Arsenal interested in signing Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, as per TEAMtalk.
After finishing second in the last three consecutive Premier League campaigns, the Gunners signed eight new players by splashing big money this summer to reinforce the squad and finally win the title this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side even enjoyed a bright start to this campaign, winning the first two games against Manchester United and Leeds United without conceding any goals.
However, the North London club ended up on the losing side against title rival Liverpool in the Premier League just before the international break. Arsenal displayed a promising performance in the game, but Dominik Szoboszlai’s excellent goal from a free kick sealed the fate of the match.
In the meantime, Arsenal have already started planning to refresh the squad next year to maintain their level and are willing to buy a new midfielder despite already purchasing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard this summer.
TEAMtalk claim that the North London club are interested in Wharton and could make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
Wharton to Arsenal
However, purchasing the Englishman won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as he has placed himself on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United as well, having displayed impressive performances recently.
The Red Devils have identified him as the ‘prime target’ to bolster the midfield after scouting intensively. Their scouts are even ‘in love’ with the youngster’s style of play.
Crystal Palace don’t want to let him leave for cheap, as he still has four years left in his current contract and have slapped a £60m price tag on his head.
Wharton joined Selhurst Park from Blackburn Rovers at the beginning of last year and has established himself as an integral part of Oliver Glasner’s starting XI.
He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. However, he has struggled with fitness problems in recent years, and Arsenal need to be careful about that before making any potential swoop for him.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a formal approach to sign Wharton next year.
