Arsenal are monitoring Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller, with reports from The Daily Express suggesting the club are in a good position to sign him.
The Gunners have been tracking the German since the summer, when Manchester United failed with a late approach before the transfer deadline.
Liverpool and United were both strongly linked with Stiller in the recent window, but neither move came to pass.
United are believed to have made a major push in the closing hours, but talks broke down.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is said to admire the player’s style and sees him as a strong fit for his project.
The report claims that Stiller himself is open to the move and keen on a new challenge, with Arsenal reportedly leading the chase to sign him.
Stiller’s profile and contract situation
Stiller, who turned 24 this year, signed fresh terms with Stuttgart in January. His deal runs until 2028, with Transfermarkt listing his value at around £39 million.
He has already spoken about his wish to play abroad, which strengthens Arsenal’s hopes of landing him in the near future.
The midfielder has gained a reputation in Germany as one of the most reliable playmakers in his role.
He plays mainly as a deep-lying midfielder, controlling possession and helping his side progress up the pitch.
Known for his vision and calmness, he often drops into defensive areas to link play and keep his side moving.
He is comfortable under pressure and reads the game with maturity.
While he is not seen as a physical presence in midfield duels, his technical quality sets him apart.
He excels at retaining the ball, finding teammates with accurate forward passes, and building attacking moves.
Stiller is also praised for his delivery from set-pieces, adding another valuable dimension to his game.
His biggest strength lies in orchestrating play and dictating tempo, rather than defensive battles or scoring goals.
Stiller’s mix of passing range and composure has already made him a sought-after name across Europe.
However, you’d have to question whether Arsenal need another deep-lying playmaker after signing Martin Zubimendi in the summer.
Many would feel the money would be better spent strengthening other areas of the squad.
