Champions League Opponents Analysed: Enjoyable Away Trips for Gunners Fans
The Champions League draw is one of the most anticipated events for Premier League clubs, and also provides plenty of excitement amongst fans, with dedicated supporters finally able to plan their trips across Europe for the next few months.
The recently revised format is still at the bedding-in stage; however, it delivers a wider range of possibilities for the travelling fans, with the eight-game schedule offering far more geographical variety. Last season, Gunners fans enjoyed memorable trips to Lisbon, Madrid, Eindhoven and Girona, and although they have pleasingly managed to avoid a long-haul visit to Almaty, fans will travel in numbers to Milan and Prague this season.
Arsenal bowed out of the competition at the semi-final stage last season, and they will be determined to go one step further this time around. The bookmakers have priced them up amongst the favourites, with the majority of sites having installed them as fourth favourites to lift the trophy at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
The Champions League has a significant worldwide following and is always popular with sports bettors, too. Many betting sites offer price boosts, enhanced accumulators and money back promotions on this competition for each of the eight matchdays, with a guide to free bet codes and offers enabling players to find the latest Champions League bonuses throughout the European football season.
Home Fixtures
Although we are primarily focusing on the much-anticipated away trips, the Emirates faithful have four home games to enjoy with a quartet of teams travelling to North London to face last season’s semi-finalists.
Olympiacos are the first side to visit N5 on October 1st, 2025. The Greek side will be making their return to the competition, having spent last season in the Europa League, reaching the semi-final stage. It’s back-to-back home fixtures with Atletico Madrid coming to town on the other side of the October international break.
Bayern Munich will provide a stern test at the end of November, with the German champions having beaten the Gunners in four of their last seven meetings. The pair played out a thoroughly entertaining 2-2 draw when they last met at this venue in April 2024.
The aforementioned Kairat Almaty are the final side to visit the Emirates at the beginning of 2026. They knocked Celtic out of the competition, beating the Bhoys on penalties. The hosts will be short-priced favourites for that tie on January 26th, and, likely, they will already have qualified for the knock-out stages of the competition; however, the Kazakhstan outfit cannot be underestimated
Away Ties
Arsenal fans have been freeing up space in their diary ahead of some appealing away trips. Mikel Arteta’s men will kick off the league stage of the competition with an early kick-off in Bilbao. The San Mamés Stadium is widely regarded as possessing one of the best atmospheres in Europe, and away fans can also enjoy a few days taking in the beautiful scenery of the Basque Country.
Bilbao may have spent last season in the Europa League, yet they tend to be formidable opposition at home, winning six of their seven matches at this venue last year. It is a new stadium for Arsenal fans and a hugely exciting way to start their Champions League campaign.
Prague is a popular destination for football fans, and Arsenal fans will have fond memories of the Sinobo Stadium. A 4-0 victory in 2021, including an Alexandre Lacazette double, propelled the North Londoners into the Europa League semi-finals, and they are expected to beat the Czech outfit once again at the beginning of November.
Bruges is another desirable destination for football fans, particularly those of a beer-drinking persuasion. The Gunners will start December with a trip to Belgium to face Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium, and this is a fantastic place to visit. It’s the first time that these two clubs have met in this competition, and although FCB beat Sporting CP and Atalanta here last year, they were easily beaten by Aston Villa during the knock-out stages.
The compact nature of the pitch at the Jan Breydel and the proximity of the stands create an unforgettable atmosphere, and if Arsenal can take an early lead, then it could be party time in Sint-Andries.
Alongside new destinations, there is a familiar face on the horizon with a second successive trip to the San Siro on the cards for Arsenal supporters on matchday seven. Fans were left frustrated during their last visit as the hosts netted a first-half penalty and weathered the storm to secure a 1-0 victory. At the time of writing, the hosts haven’t lost a home game in the Champions League since September 2022 and will be a tough nut to crack. Nevertheless, supporters are still likely to enjoy a trip to the Lombardy region and the iconic San Siro.
