Arsenal are reportedly in ‘concrete negotiations’ to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Piero Hincapié, as per transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg.

After finishing second in the last three consecutive Premier League campaigns, the Gunners have signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze by spending around £270m this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed a brilliant start to this season, accumulating six points from two Premier League matches. The North London club have scored six goals without being breached defensively.

Arteta’s side and Tottenham Hotspur are the only clubs yet to concede a goal thus far this season. Therefore, Arsenal are looking strong defensively once again; still, they are planning to add further depth to this position as Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko are expected to leave.

On X, Plettenberg states that Arsenal are ‘pushing’ to sign Hincapié from Leverkusen and are in ‘concrete negotiations’ with the German side to seal the deal.

The Ecuadorian international has a £52m release clause in his current contract, and Erik ten Hag’s side have no intention of letting him leave for anything less than that sum.

However, Arsenal don’t want to match the figure and are looking to lower the price through negotiations. Hincapié is keen on moving to the Emirates Stadium and is waiting for the agreement between the two clubs.

Plettenberg wrote:

“Arsenal are pushing to sign Piero Hincapié, but Bayer 04 Leverkusen are currently insisting on the €60m release clause. Concrete negotiations between the clubs are ongoing, with Arsenal aiming to pay less than the €60m. Hincapié wants the move to Arsenal and is waiting for an agreement.”

Hincapié has established himself as a key player for Leverkusen in recent years and helped his side win the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and Super Cup under Xabi Alonso.

He is a left-footed centre-back by trait but is also comfortable in the left-back position. He is quick, good in the air, can play out from the back, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.

The South American star is a highly talented player and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service.

Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly also interested in the 23-year-old, but the Gunners are looking like the clear favourites to get the deal done before next week’s transfer deadline.
