Arsenal eye move to sign River Plate’s Ian Subiabre
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing River Plate youngster Ian Subiabre, as per Spanish outlet AS.
Since becoming the Gunners’ boss back in 2019, Mikel Arteta has showcased his tactical nous and has made his club a Premier League title contender.
Along with that, the Spaniard has also proven his ability to develop young players. Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Magalhaes have flourished in their careers under his guidance.
Gabriel Martinelli also showcased promises earlier, but has been below average in recent seasons. Furthermore, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have placed themselves as key players for the first team after progressing through the Hale End academy.
Max Dowman was handed his Premier League debut by Arteta at the age of 15, and he won a penalty for Arsenal in their match against Leeds United last weekend.
Now, AS report that Arsenal are continuing to explore options around the world to add more young players to the squad and have been impressed by Subiabre.
The Gunners have sent scouts to South America to watch him closely before making a potential swoop. The 18-year-old’s existing deal will expire next summer and has a £26m release clause.

The Spanish outlet mention that Chelsea are also contemplating making a move for him, while Barcelona are in this race as well. However, the Blaugrana can’t afford to seal the deal by triggering his release clause.
Subiabre is a left-footed winger and is comfortable on either flank. He has risen through River Plate’s youth system alongside Real Madrid star Franco Mastantuano.
The 18-year-old was with the Argentinian giants’ squad for the Club World Cup but didn’t get the opportunity to play a minute before their elimination from the group stage.
Subiabre is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they were to purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service.
Meanwhile, following a comfortable 5-0 victory over Leeds United, Arsenal will face off against Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend before the international break.
