Player Ratings: Arsenal 5-0 Leeds – Dowman’s impressive debut
Arsenal secured a dominant 5-0 victory over Leeds United in their first home game of the season on Saturday night.
The Gunners were sharp in attack and ruthless in front of goal. Declan Rice delivered a superb corner early in the match, which Jurrien Timber met with a precise header to open the scoring.
The second goal came before the break, as Timber’s clever pass found Bukayo Saka, who lashed home a superb strike for 2-0.
After the restart, Viktor Gyökeres added a third with a lovely finish after weaving his way into the box.
Timber then struck again from close range following a scramble in the box.
The fifth came from the penalty spot when Gyökeres converted after 15-year-old Max Dowman was fouled inside the area.
Arsenal in control from start to finish
The hosts dominated possession and barely gave Leeds a chance to create anything meaningful.
David Raya made one key save from Pascal Struijk’s header but had little else to do.
Timber was the standout performer with two goals and an assist, dictating play from defence and pushing forward with confidence.
New signing Gyökeres impressed with his movement and capped his display with two goals.
Arsenal will now travel to Anfield next weekend to face Liverpool, but they could be without Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard after both players picked up injuries against Leeds.
