Arsenal tipped to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers
Former forward turned pundit Stan Collymore has claimed that Arsenal could make a move to sign Aston Villa ace Morgan Rogers.
The 23-year-old has been displaying eye-catching performances for Unai Emery’s side since joining from Middlesbrough in the winter window last year.
Last season was his first full campaign as an Aston Villa player, and he showcased his productivity, scoring 14 goals and registering 13 assists across all competitions.
Following that, he has attracted a lot of attention in this summer transfer window. However, Aston Villa are likely to be able to keep hold of him with the deadline less than 10 days away.
Now, on Caught Offside, Collymore says that if Rogers continues his impressive performances this season and improves his goal tally, Arsenal are highly likely to make a move for him next summer.
However, the Gunners won’t be the only club in this race as Manchester United, Liverpool, or Manchester City could also attempt to sign him. The 23-year-old ranked through the Citizens’ youth system before joining Middlesbrough a couple of years ago.
Collymore said:
“I don’t think, at this point, a club will come in with a bid for Rogers before the transfer window. But this time next year, if he continues the trajectory that he’s on and starts to add more goals and more assists, then it’s not going to be a surprise if Arsenal, Man United, Man City or even Liverpool make a move.”
Rogers to Arsenal
Rogers is valued at around £48m by Transfermarkt and still has five years left in his current contract. Therefore, Aston Villa won’t be in any rush to cash-in on him next year.
They have established themselves as one of the European contenders, and if they manage to secure Champions League football next season, Emery would be desperate to keep hold of him.
Rogers is a CAM by trait, but is also comfortable on the left flank; furthermore, he can provide cover on the right flank if needed.
Arsenal have decided to reinforce the frontline by signing Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke this summer. However, should they manage to add Rogers as well, having already got Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres, that would become a formidable attacking department.
