Arsenal set sights on Lyon winger Malick Fofana
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Lyon forward Malick Fofana, according to French outlet L’Equipe.
The Premier League side remain focused on adding strength in wide attacking positions before the transfer window shuts.
The Gunners are close to finalising a deal for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but that has not slowed their hunt for more attacking firepower.
Mikel Arteta is keen to give his squad extra depth, especially on the left wing, and L’Equipe claims Arsenal are still showing a keen interest in Fofana this month.
The 20-year-old has made a big impression in Ligue 1 since moving to Lyon. His creativity and ability to trouble defenders have made him one of the brightest young prospects in European football.
Arsenal believe he could be a strong addition both for the present and the future.
Competition for Fofana’s signature
Reports suggest Lyon are under financial pressure and may need to raise funds through player sales.
The French side have placed a valuation of around £35 million on Fofana, which could tempt suitors across Europe.
However, Arsenal are not the only side monitoring the Belgian international. German champions Bayern Munich are also interested, and they too have included him on their transfer shortlist.
Fofana is highly regarded for his direct and fearless playing style. He is comfortable operating on either flank, which makes him unpredictable when driving at defenders.
His pace, close control, and willingness to take on players in one-on-one situations allow him to create openings in dangerous areas.
Fofana is also confident using both feet, which helps him deliver crosses and shots from different angles.
In addition, his strong work rate ensures he contributes defensively, pressing opponents and tracking back when required.
This balance of attacking flair and discipline makes him a valuable option for a team like Arsenal.
With the Gunners already strengthening their frontline this summer, adding Fofana could give Arteta another versatile weapon.
His development at Lyon suggests he has the talent to compete at the highest level and possibly grow into one of Europe’s standout wide forwards.
