Arsenal are reportedly ‘leading’ the race to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

The South American was an integral part of Los Blancos’s success over the last few years. But speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in this transfer window following his difficulties in finding regular game time during the final few months of last season.

Now on TBR Football, Bailey says that although Real Madrid still love the 24-year-old, they are ready to cash-in on him. Rodrygo has accepted the decision and is prepared to leave to play regularly and develop his career.

Arsenal are interested in him and are ‘leading’ the race to secure his service. The player would be open to moving to the Emirates Stadium as they have now established himself as one of the contenders to win the Champions League under Mikel Arteta’s guidance.

However, purchasing the forward won’t be straightforward for the north London club as Manchester City are also keen on signing him and are the favourites, alongside the Gunners, to seal the deal. The player would also be open to moving to the Etihad Stadium should they manage to agree on a deal in principle with the Spanish giants.

Arsenal have already signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, and Viktor Gyokeres by spending around £200m.

However, Mikel Arteta also wants a new left-sided forward before the end of this window. Gabriel Martinelli displayed inconsistent performances last term, while Leandro Trossard has been linked with a move away this summer.

Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks. However, Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their efforts to sign the Englishman.

Therefore, if Arsenal eventually fail to buy Eze, they might make a move for Rodrygo. However, Real Madrid have slapped a £78m price tag on his head with his existing deal set to run until 2028.

Rodrygo is a left-winger by trait but is also comfortable on the opposite side. He has proven his worth at the highest level in recent years and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service before the end of this transfer window.
