Arsenal face Manchester City battle for Rodrygo Goes
Arsenal’s hopes of signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes have been dealt a blow.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester City are now also showing interest in the Brazilian winger.
Mikel Arteta is believed to see Rodrygo as a strong option to boost Arsenal’s left wing.
The club have been tracking him for some time, viewing him as a player who can make an instant impact.
Rodrygo, 24, has been a vital figure for Madrid in recent seasons. He has played a key part in their attacking set-up, scoring important goals and creating chances.
However, the Spanish giants have a deep pool of attacking players and Xabi Alonso has made it clear he won’t be a regular.
That situation has led to speculation over whether Rodrygo could move away from the Bernabéu this summer.
City enter the race for Rodrygo
While Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move during the closing weeks of the window. Romano claims City have joined the pursuit for the forward.
Real Madrid are said to value him at around £87 million. This price reflects his performances and his importance to the team in recent years.
City are preparing for changes in their squad. Jack Grealish is set to join Everton, while James McAtee is heading towards a move to Nottingham Forest. In addition, Savinho has been linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
These departures have left Pep Guardiola looking at fresh attacking options. Rodrygo is now among the names on their shortlist.
City’s interest means Arsenal will need to act quickly if they are to stay ahead in the race.
Why Arsenal must move fast
The Gunners are eager to add more quality to their forward line ahead of the new season. Rodrygo’s ability to play across the front three makes him an attractive choice.
In the last campaign, he produced 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. Such numbers highlight his ability to influence games at the highest level.
With City now serious about their interest, the competition has intensified.
Arsenal will need to present a strong proposal to convince Madrid to sell, and to persuade the player that his future should be in north London.
The coming weeks will be decisive as both Premier League clubs push to secure one of La Liga’s brightest attacking talents.
