Arsenal remain ‘keen’ on signing Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes
Arsenal reportedly remain ‘keen’ on signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per The Times.
Since moving to the Emirates Stadium back in 2019, Gabriel Martinelli has been the first-choice left-winger for the Gunners. He displayed promising performances in the 2022/23 campaign but has been average in the last two seasons.
Despite that, Mikel Arteta has continued to keep faith in him, and he has done that mainly due to the forward’s off-the-ball work rate. Leandro Trossard was purchased to support the Brazilian and has done well, but he has turned 30 and has been linked with a move away.
Some Arsenal fans aren’t happy with Martinelli and want him to be replaced by a better player. Arteta seemingly also wants that.
Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. Furthermore, Anthony Gordon and Rodrygo have also been suggested as serious targets.
The Times report that the North London club remain ‘keen’ on purchasing Rodrygo to bolster the attack, but they will only make a move if he can be signed on a loan deal.
Rodrygo to Arsenal
The South American was an integral part of Real Madrid’s success in the last few years, but he has lost his importance in the starting XI since the arrival of Kylian Mbappe last summer.
The forward even struggled to find regular game time during the last few games of last season. The situation didn’t improve under the new manager, Xabi Alonso, in the Club World Cup.
Therefore, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in this transfer window. Apart from Arsenal, Liverpool have also been linked with a move for him as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz, who has joined Bayern Munich.
The 24-year-old still has three years left in his current contract, and Real Madrid have slapped a £78m price tag on his head. So, it remains to be seen whether they allow him to leave on a loan deal.
It is going to be interesting to see who the North London club eventually opt to purchase to reinforce the left flank before the end of this transfer window.
