Crystal Palace expect Arsenal to make move for Eze soon
Crystal Palace reportedly expect Arsenal to make a formal move to sign Eberechi Eze very soon, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
With the new campaign still two weeks away, the Gunners have already done most of the transfer business this summer. Meaning, Mikel Arteta will have enough time to prepare before the Premier League’s opening encounter against Manchester United.
It was widely suggested that the North London club needed a prolific goalscorer to finally become the English champions, and they have signed Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.
He has been the highest-scoring striker in Europe over the last two seasons. So, his acquisition has brought a sense of excitement among the fan base.
However, following the 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the pre-season game, the north Londoners have raised the concern that they need a new left-sided forward after losing faith in Gabriel Martinelli.
Despite already spending around £200m, Arsenal are still planning to bolster the left flank and have been linked with Rodrygo Goes and Anthony Gordon. However, Eze is seemingly the primary target.
Eze to Arsenal
Now, on his YouTube channel, Romano says that Arsenal have been in contact with Eze’s representatives for months and the player is keen on moving to the Emirates Stadium.
Although Arsenal haven’t opened talks with Crystal Palace over this deal yet, the South London club except Arteta’s side to make a formal approach soon to seal the deal.
The forward had a £68m release clause, but the clause expired last night. Arsenal didn’t want to sign him by triggering his release clause and are hoping to drive the price down through negotiations.
Eze is comfortable playing centrally and out wide. He has been in excellent form in recent years. After making 17 goal contributions in all competitions in the 2023/24 season, he made 26 goal contributions last term.
He even guided his team to win the FA Cup. The forward netted in the semi-final and scored the winner against Manchester City in the final.
The Englishman is a Premier League-proven player, and Arsenal need a player like him to close the gap with Liverpool. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service.
