Arsenal hoping to sign Eberechi Eze in a swap deal
Arsenal are reportedly hoping to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze in a swap deal, as per the Express.
The Gunners have decided to reinforce the wide forward position by signing Noni Madueke in a £52m deal, including bonuses. He is a left-footed right winger and can also play on the opposite side.
However, Mikel Arteta wants a new left-sided forward. The Express claim that Arsenal have identified Eze as the ‘preferred’ option, and the player is keen on returning to his old club. The 27-year-old was on the books of the North London club at a very young age, but they decided to let him leave.
Eze has a £68m release clause in his current contract, and Arsenal believe his price is too steep, having already spent around £200m on six different new players.
Therefore, they could look to include Leandro Trossard in a part-exchange deal to lower the South London club’s valuation. Both Eze and Trossard are similar players as they can play centrally and on the left flank, so Crystal Palace might be open to accepting him in a swap deal.
The Belgian has turned 30 and has entered the final year of his current contract. Therefore, parting ways with him in this window would be the right outcome for Arsenal to avoid losing him for free next year.
Eze to Arsenal
Eze enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, making 26 goal contributions across all competitions. He has entered the prime stage of his career; therefore, this is the right time for him to take the next step.
Eze is a technically gifted player and has the creativity to break the low block. Arsenal struggle to break it with Gabriel Martinelli, as he is a direct forward and thrives on space behind the high defensive line.
However, not many teams play with a high line against Arsenal as they have established themselves as the title contenders. Therefore, Arsenal need a player like Eze.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to lure the Englishman to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this transfer window.
