Arsenal remain in talks to sign Eberechi Eze
Arsenal reportedly remain in talks to sign Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have done the bulk of their summer business early, meaning Mikel Arteta will have ample time to prepare before next month’s Premier League opener against Manchester United.
The North London club have purchased Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, and Viktor Gyokeres by spending around £200m.
However, it has been suggested that the Spanish boss also wants a new left winger and have been linked with Rodrygo Goes of Real Madrid and Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon in recent weeks.
But on GiveMeSport, Romano says that Eze is also on their radar, and Arsenal have been maintaining contact with the player’s representatives.
They haven’t made a formal proposal to Crystal Palace to sign the forward yet, as having already splashed big money, they are set to focus on outgoings before signing any new players.
Eze to Arsenal
Reiss Nelson is set to leave with Fulham seemingly his next destination, while Oleksandr Zinchenko is also expected to leave before the end of this transfer window.
Romano said:
“Arsenal maintain contacts active on player side but not yet with Palace. So now they will focus on outgoings… and then, we will see.”
Eze has a £68m release clause in his current contract, which will run until 2027. He is a left-sided forward by trait but is also comfortable in the CAM role.
He has showcased his best as a left No.10 in Oliver Glasner’s 3-4-2-1 formation at Selhurst Park, while Roy Hodgson previously used him in a box-to-box role in a midfield three.
Arteta likes having versatile players like him, and considering Eze is a Premier League-proven player, he would be a risk-free acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service.
In 43 appearances in all competitions, the 27-year-old scored 14 goals and notched up 12 assists last term. He even scored the winner against Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
Meanwhile, after beating AC Milan in the first pre-season game, Arsenal also defeated Newcastle United in the last game and will face off against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.
