Arsenal handed major lift in Rodrygo transfer chase
Arsenal have received a major boost in their attempt to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes after he snubbed a potential move to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Brazilian international had briefly been linked with a surprise move to Spurs, sparking concern among Arsenal supporters.
However, according to a report from Santi Aouna of FootMercato, Rodrygo has no interest in joining Tottenham as he’d want to move to a ‘bigger’ club if he does leave Madrid.
That development could come as a timely boost for Mikel Arteta, who sees the 24-year-old as an ideal addition to strengthen his left flank.
The Gunners have been keeping close tabs on Rodrygo and are prepared to move for him if the circumstances are right.
In order for Arsenal to step up their interest in the South American, a current attacker would likely need to leave with Leandro Trossard the most likely candidate.
Madrid open to sale but value remains high
Rodrygo is reportedly open to a fresh challenge after Xabi Alonso made it clear he’s not in his first team plans for this coming campaign.
Despite interest from several top European clubs, Arsenal are understood to be among the most serious contenders for his signature.
Tottenham reportedly made initial enquiries into his availability. However, they are no longer considered a realistic destination as Rodrygo does not view the move as a step forward.
The Brazilian can operate on either wing and has also been used through the middle as a central forward.
His versatility and attacking intelligence have caught the attention of Arteta, who believes the Madrid man would suit Arsenal’s style of play.
Real Madrid are reportedly willing to let Rodrygo leave this summer. According to UOL in Brazil, the Spanish giants have set his price tag at around £87 million.
The Gunners are keen to explore the possibility of a deal. However, it remains unclear whether they will be able to meet Madrid’s asking price or Rodrygo’s personal terms.
As it stands, Arsenal may have a clearer path to try and secure the forward’s services with Spurs now out of the race.
Rodrygo’s future remains uncertain, but Arsenal’s chances of landing him appear to have improved.
Arsenal have already been extremely active in the window with six new signings, but Arteta is still looking to further strengthen his ranks with Rodrygo a key target.
