Arsenal could still sign Aston Villa ace Ollie Watkins this summer, as per The Independent.

The Gunners have reinforced several areas of the squad ahead of next season. Cristhian Mosquera has joined to add depth in the centre-back position, while Kepa Arrizabalaga has been purchased to support David Raya.

Following Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s departure as free agents, Mikel Arteta has bought Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard to revamp the engine room.

Moreover, Noni Madueke has joined from Chelsea, and it seems like his primary job would be to deputise for Bukayo Saka, but he is also an option for the left flank position.

However, Arsenal also want to reinforce the left wing but are waiting before doing that, as having splashed big money, they need to raise funds first.

It has widely been reported that the North London club need a new prolific goalscorer to win the Premier League title as Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have not proven reliable enough to fulfill that role. So, Arsenal have signed Viktor Gyokeres, and he has been the highest-scoring striker in Europe over the last two seasons.

Now, The Independent claim that despite already purchasing Gyokeres, Arsenal could go for yet another striker should they feel the No.9 position need more depth.

Watkins to Arsenal

Arsenal hold a long-term interest in Watkins and even attempted to buy him last winter. You can ‘never write off’ the English’s potential move to the Emirates Stadium as Arteta is a long-term admirer of him.

Aston Villa reportedly don’t want to part ways with him, but could change their stance should they receive an offer of around £60m, with his existing deal set to run until 2028.

The 29-year-old has proven his worth in the Premier League, netting 15 or more goals in the last three consecutive campaigns. He scuppered Arsenal’s chance of winning the title a couple of years ago by scoring the winner at the Emirates Stadium.

He also netted against the Gunners last term. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually opt to secure his service before the end of this transfer window.
