Arsenal ‘love’ Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes
Arsenal reportedly ‘love’ Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
After finishing second in the last three consecutive Premier League campaigns, Mikel Arteta has found himself under pressure as he can’t go another season without winning the league title.
The Gunners’ recruitment team, led by sporting director Andrea Berta, has been very busy in this transfer window to strengthen the squad and hand the Spanish boss the necessary tools to win big silverware next season.
They purchased Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, and Noni Madueke quickly, while Viktor Gyokeres is set to join next. In total, they have splashed around £200m.
However, it has been suggested that Arteta also wants a new left-sided forward. Speaking on Latte Firm – Arsenal FC x, Jacobs says that Arsenal ‘love’ Rodrygo to reinforce the left flank; however, he would be very expensive as Real Madrid want around £78m plus his high wages.
Therefore, Arsenal will have to raise funds by selling Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard to facilitate the move. Berta showcased his qualities of driving the price down in the Gyokeres deal, so if he can do some ‘magic’, the Emirates club might be able to seal the deal.
Rodrygo to Arsenal
Jacobs said:
“I think Arsenal love Rodrygo, there’s no denying that, but for it to happen, Trossard or Martinelli must depart and the overall package would have to be deemed valuable. Andrea Berta proved with Viktor Gyokeres that he can drive prices down; the end deal was actually five million less, and that’s Andrea Berta all over – a bit of a maverick in the market.
“If he says he wants to leave, Real are open to sell for around 90 million euros, but you’ve got the wage and the agent fees, so Arsenal don’t see a great deal of value in the deal. If they’re going to move, they will need to bring in an important fee for either Trossard or Martinelli and secondly, Berta would have to work his magic to try and drive the overall cost of the deal down.”
Martinelli has been the first-choice left winger of Arsenal over the last few years, while Trossard has been deputising for him. But the Brazilian hasn’t been able to flourish in his career since enjoying a stellar 2022/23 campaign.
Therefore, upgrading this position would help Arteta finally win the Premier League title next season. Apart from Rodrygo, Eberechi Eze and Anthony Gordon have also been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
It is going to be interesting to see who the North London club eventually buy in this transfer window to strengthen the attacking department.
