Arsenal finalise Gyökeres deal after agreeing full terms
Arsenal have completed all the necessary steps for the signing of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners entered the summer transfer window with the clear intention of signing a new striker to lead their attack. Gyökeres was quickly identified as their top choice.
Following a lengthy period of talks, Arsenal and Sporting have reached a full agreement on the transfer.
The deal will see Arsenal pay an initial fee of £54.8 million, with an additional £8.6 million included in performance-related add-ons.
Formal documents have now been exchanged between both clubs, with full approval granted for the next stage of the process.
Arsenal land prolific forward after lengthy negotiations
As part of the final arrangements, Gyökeres has been authorised to travel and is expected to complete his medicals within 24 hours of the report.
Romano’s update claims that the striker will travel to London today before completing his medical on Sunday ahead of an official announcement.
Once that is done, he will fly out to join his new Arsenal teammates, who are currently in Asia preparing for the upcoming pre-season tournament.
The 26-year-old forward had an outstanding season for Sporting Lisbon, scoring 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions.
His impressive form made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe over the past few months.
Arsenal believe Gyökeres brings the goal threat and physical presence needed to compete at the highest level this season.
He has experience at international level as well, having made his debut for Sweden at the age of 20.
Since then, he has earned 26 caps and scored 15 goals for his country, becoming an important part of their attack.
Mikel Arteta has been keen on adding a reliable centre-forward to boost the team’s chances in domestic and European competitions.
Gyökeres is expected to slot straight into Arsenal’s frontline once the deal is officially completed and he joins training.
The signing marks another major addition for the Gunners, who have been very active in the transfer market this summer.
With the medical now the only step left, Arsenal are on course to wrap up one of their biggest signings of the window.
