Arsenal remain keen on signing Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon

By on July 24, 2025

Arsenal reportedly remain keen on signing Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon, as per journalist Charles Watts.

Since moving to St James’ Park from Everton, the 24-year-old has established himself as a key player in Eddie Howe’s starting XI. He enjoyed a productive 2023/24 campaign, but didn’t manage to replicate the same performance last term, and it was due to fitness problems.

Still, he helped the Magpies qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top five. He attracted a lot of attention last summer, but Howe’s side eventually managed to keep hold of him. The forward even signed a fresh term until 2030.

Therefore, the Tyneside club are in a strong position to keep hold of him, but on Caught Offside, Watts claims that this situation hasn’t put off Arsenal and they have identified him as a serious option to strengthen the left flank.

The Gunners currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard as options for the left side of the attack, but Mikel Arteta believes he needs to upgrade this position to finally win the Premier League title. Apart from Gordon, Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace and Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes are on Arsenal’s wishlist as well.

Arsenal have signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, and Noni Madueke thus far this summer, while Viktor Gyokeres and Cristhian Mosquera are set to follow suit. Despite already spending big money, Arsenal have a scope to add another player this summer, with the window remaining plenty of time.

Gordon to Arsenal

Gordon, valued at around £56m by Transfermarkt, is a left winger by trait but is also comfortable on the opposite side. Howe has even used him in the centre-forward position to give Alexander Isak a breather at times.

He is a Premier League-proven player and is set to enter the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he would be a great coup for the North London club if they purchase him.

However, Newcastle wouldn’t want to let him leave easily, and it is going to be interesting to see who the Emirates club eventually buy to bolster the left flank.

Meanwhile, after facing off against AC Milan in the first pre-season game, Arsenal will take on the Tyneside club next on Sunday afternoon.
