Arsenal close in on Shamrock Rover’s Victor Ozhianvuna
Arsenal are on the verge of reaching a deal with Shamrock Rovers to sign teenage midfielder Victor Ozhianvuna, according to Irish Independent reports.
If completed, the transfer would break the League of Ireland’s record fee, which currently stands at £1.65 million. This move is expected to go beyond that amount.
The 16-year-old made his first-team debut for Shamrock Rovers in February and has grown in stature ever since.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, particularly by Arsenal scouts who had already been watching him before his debut.
Due to post-Brexit rules, Ozhianvun will not be allowed to move to a UK club until he turns 18.
However, Arsenal are ready to agree a pre-contract that will let him remain at Shamrock Rovers until then.
The north London side continue to invest heavily in young players with high potential.
They are also nearing a deal for Will Wright of Salford City, another teenager on their radar.
Arsenal will keep searching across Europe and beyond as they look to secure more exciting young talents for the future.
Shamrock boss confirms progress on deal
Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley confirmed that the club are already in deep talks with a foreign side, believed to be Arsenal.
The deal, which is said to be well advanced, would allow the player to remain in Ireland for now.
Ozhianvun’s rise has been rapid. He scored his first senior goal recently with a well-taken finish that helped Shamrock Rovers reach the FAI Cup last 16.
The youngster is known for his skill in tight spaces. He is quick on the turn, highly agile and possesses sharp acceleration that gives him an edge in one-on-one situations.
His ability to glide past defenders while playing out wide has earned him praise, and Arsenal are believed to view him as a long-term project with huge promise.
This move, if completed, would underline the Premier League side’s growing interest in the Irish market and their ongoing plan to secure future stars early.
