Arsenal eye Nelson Weiper after Euro U21 breakout

By on July 23, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly keeping track of Mainz 05 striker Nelson Weiper, according to a report from Football Transfers.

The Gunners have been one of the busiest sides in the transfer market this summer.

Mikel Arteta remains focused on building a squad capable of winning major silverware.

So far, the North London club have bolstered their forward line with the arrival of Noni Madueke.

They are also believed to be close to finalising a deal for Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres.

This latest link to Weiper suggests the Gunners are not yet done strengthening their attack.

The 20-year-old striker is said to be attracting attention from Arsenal, though the report adds that no official bid has been made at this stage.

Weiper struggled to get regular starts for Mainz last season due to the presence of Jonathan Burkardt.

He still managed to make an impact whenever he was on the pitch.

The forward featured in only seven Bundesliga matches from the start, but scored three goals and laid on two assists during those limited appearances.

German forward impresses on international stage amid rising interest

Weiper also shone on the international stage during the Under-21 European Championship held in June.

He began the tournament on the bench but later stepped up with a brilliant run of form.

The German scored four goals in the last four games of the tournament as Germany reached the final.

Germany eventually lost 3-2 to England in that match, but the striker’s performances drew widespread attention.

Mainz reportedly value their young forward at around £12 million.

Arsenal are not alone in monitoring Weiper’s situation, with Tottenham Hotspur also believed to be interested.

Brentford are also said to be watching him closely.

The interest from England could grow further in the coming weeks as the transfer window enters its final stages.

For now, Arsenal continue to keep an eye on Weiper’s development as they consider their next move.
