Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 22-year-old was regarded as a highly talented player during his time at La Masia, but he initially struggled to find regular game time after joining Paris Saint-Germain.

He enjoyed his breakthrough campaign at PSV Eindhoven in the 2022/23 season, and after being impressed by his performances, Les Parisiens opted to bring him back.

However, the player knew he wouldn’t get regular playing time in the French capital, so he left straightaway and joined Leipzig on a loan deal. He was excellent in his debut campaign at Red Bull Arena, making 23 goal contributions in all competitions.

He couldn’t manage to replicate the same numbers last term as he was out injured for a few months. Still, the Dutchman scored 11 goals and registered eight assists.

Leipzig decided to make Simons’s loan move permanent last winter, and the player signed only a two-year deal, meaning his existing deal will run until 2027.

Simons to Arsenal

Now, on X, Romano states that Simons is already prepared to leave Leipzig this summer, and Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him. However, the Gunners aren’t the only club in this race as Chelsea are also plotting a swoop.

Simons, valued at around £61m by Transfermarkt, is a CAM by trait but is also comfortable on the flanks. Having displayed his qualities in club football, he has secured his place on the Netherlands national team.

Arsenal currently have Martin Odegaard and Ethan Nwaneri as options for the No.10 position, but Mikel Arteta is reportedly willing to add further depth in this department.

Eberechi Eze has been suggested as a serious option, but Simons is seemingly on the Spanish boss’s radar as well. The Leipzig star is a talented player and possesses high potential, so he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.

Arsenal attempted to buy Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig this summer but eventually opted not to seal the deal. Instead, they are closing in on a deal for Viktor Gyokeres to reinforce the frontline.
