Arsenal urged to seal ‘fantastic’ Eberechi Eze deal

By on July 17, 2025

Ex-Arsenal forward turned pundit Paul Merson has urged his former club to sign Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.

After finishing second in the last three Premier League campaigns, the Gunners have been very busy this summer to bolster the squad and finally win big silverware next term.

They have already purchased Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga by spending around £70m. Moreover, they are closing in on signing Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera, and after the finalisation of these three deals, their spending will reach £200m.

However, it has been reported that the North London club won’t stop their transfer business just yet as they also want a new left-winger and have been linked with Eze, Rodrygo Goes, and Anthony Gordon.

On Sky Sports, Merson rips Arsenal and Mikel Arteta apart for their decision to sign Madueke, stating that he lacks consistency and isn’t worth the approximately £52m they are set to pay.

He argues that Madueke would serve only as a backup option. His best position is on the right flank, and he isn’t expected to replace Bukayo Saka in that role.

However, he backs Arsenal’s pursuit of Eze and says that the Crystal Palace star would be a ‘perfect’ fit in Arteta’s system. Eze would be able to help the North London club break down the low-block teams, but might not be best suited to play against Liverpool and Manchester City away from home.

Eze to Arsenal

Merson wrote:

“If you asked me whether Arsenal should sign Eberechi Eze or Madueke, I’d have said Eze all day long. Now that’s a deal I can see happening and it would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal. He’s perfect. It would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal.”

It has been suggested that the Crystal Palace star has a £68m release clause in his current contract, which will expire in 2027. Eze can play on the left flank and is also efficient in the CAM role. Additionally, he can be deployed in the box-to-box role in a midfield three.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign last term, scoring 14 goals and registering 12 assists in all competitions. Moreover, he scored the winner against Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup.

Eze is a Premier League proven player and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service this summer.
