Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard as options for the left flank, but Mikel Arteta believes upgrading this position is necessary to finally win the Premier League title.

The Brazilian enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season, scoring 15 goals and registering five assists in the Premier League. However, he hasn’t been able to progress his career since, netting only 14 goals combined in the last two campaigns in the English top flight.

On the other hand, Trossard has been playing as a backup option for the 24-year-old and has turned 30; moreover, he has entered the final year of his current contract.

Rodrygo Goes of Real Madrid, Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, and Newcastle United ace Anthony Gordon have all been suggested as potential targets for the North London club.

Now, on GiveMeSport, Romano says that Arsenal ‘love’ Rodrygo and have already spoken with the player’s representatives over this deal. However, finalising the move won’t be easy, and the Gunners will have to spend big to make this deal happen.

Rodrygo to Arsenal

Romano said:

“For sure, they spoke to the agents of Rodrygo. He is a player they love internally, but it’s easy to sign Rodrygo with words, then you have to reach an agreement with Real Madrid, with Rodrygo eventually on the salary, it is not a cheap deal. So Arsenal are aware of potential difficulties on this one, but for sure, Rodrygo is a player appreciated.”

Real Madrid reportedly want around £86m to sell the South American, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. Moreover, the player currently earns around £11m-a-year in salary at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and may demand a salary hike to move to the Emirates Stadium. Therefore, Arsenal will have to make him one of the highest-paid players at the club to persuade him to join.

Rodrygo is comfortable on either flank and can also provide cover in the false nine or CAM role. He has won multiple La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies, and numerous other major cup competitions at Real Madrid.

Therefore, Arteta’s side need a serial winner like him to finally win the Premier League title.
