Arsenal prepare new offer for Spanish defender Mosquera
Arsenal are planning to submit a fresh bid for Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been very busy in the summer transfer window. They have already completed deals for Martin Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Mikel Arteta’s side are on the verge of signing Viktor Gyokeres after making a breakthrough in talks with Sporting. They are now targeting defensive reinforcements as the rebuild continues.
This comes after the recent exit of Takehiro Tomiyasu, who left a gap in the squad. Mosquera has been named as a top candidate to replace the Japanese international.
The 21-year-old is determined to join the North London outfit and has told Valencia he only wants to join Arsenal.
The Gunners had already made an opening bid for Mosquera, which was worth around £12 million. However, that offer was turned down by Valencia.
Personal terms agreed as Arsenal push again
Despite the initial setback, Arsenal are not giving up on the move. They are now preparing an improved offer for the highly-rated defender, according to Romano.
The club’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, is leading the negotiations. Talks between both clubs are expected to continue in the coming days.
Valencia have placed a valuation of around £17 million on the Spanish Under-21 international. Arsenal are now aiming to submit a bid that is closer to that figure.
Mosquera has just one year left on his current deal with Valencia. The La Liga side have made two contract renewal offers, but both have been rejected.
Romano has confirmed that the defender has no intention of signing a new deal with the Spanish club. The player has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners.
He is now waiting for both clubs to strike a deal before making the move. If signed, Mosquera will join a strong defensive unit at the Emirates.
He would get the chance to work alongside players like William Saliba, Ben White, Gabriel Magalhães, and Jurrien Timber.
Arsenal are keen to wrap up the deal soon, as they continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
