Former Liverpool striker turned pundit Stan Collymore has urged Arsenal to sign Viktor Gyokeres before Manchester United can hijack the move.

The Gunners are keen on strengthening the centre-forward position and have been working on a deal to sign Benjamin Sesko and the Sporting CP star.

However, it has recently been reported that the North London club are pushing forward with a deal to sign the Swedish international. Mikel Arteta’s side tabled a formal proposal worth around £69m, but the proposal didn’t meet the Lions’ asking price, with the player having a £85m release clause in his current contract.

Therefore, they will have to increase the bid to seal the deal. The 27-year-old is desperate to leave Jose Alvalade Stadium to take the next step in his career and has refused to turn up for training in a bid to force a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Now, on Caught Offside, Collymore says that purchasing Gyokeres would be a gamble, but most acquisitions are risky unless they are Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe, as they are guaranteed to produce consistently.

However, Gyokeres is confident, having scored plenty of goals over the last two seasons, and considering he knows English football after playing for Brighton, Swansea, and Coventry City, he would be a good acquisition for Arsenal.

Gyokeres to Arsenal

The North London club have also been advised to seal the deal quickly before Man Utd or any other team can swoop in and hijack the move, as he is a specialist striker, something Arteta’s side lack, and they need to win the title.

Collymore said:

“So for me, it’s simple: get the deal across the line. Get him in before he gets frustrated, or a team like Man United submits a cheeky bid. Arsenal need to get the business done. He’s worth the risk. He’s worth the gamble, and he’s an out-and-out striker, something that Arsenal really haven’t had for some time now.”

Man Utd registered their interest in signing Gyokeres, as Ruben Amorim was willing to reunite with his former colleague. However, the player is prioritising a move to the Emirates Stadium.

But it has been reported that Gyokeres wouldn’t mind moving to Old Trafford should Arsenal fail to agree on a deal in principle with Sporting. It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually decide to bolster the frontline by signing the Sporting star.
