Arsenal could attempt to sign Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman

Arsenal could reportedly attempt to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, as per Caught Offside.

Following Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s departure as free agents, the Gunners have decided to revamp the engine room by purchasing Martin Zubimendi and Jorginho.

Moreover, Mikel Arteta’s side have bought Kepa Arrizabalaga to support David Raya following Neto’s return to his parent club after a season-long loan spell last term.

Now, the North London club are prioritising reinforcing the attacking department and have already agreed on a deal in principle with Chelsea to sign Noni Madueke.

Moreover, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal also want a new left-sided forward and have identified Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace as the primary option. They have even held positive talks over this deal.

However, if they eventually fail to secure his service, Arsenal have lined up Lookman as a potential alternative option, with Arteta a ‘big fan’ of the Nigerian.

Lookman to Arsenal

Eze has a £68m release clause in his current contract, but Lookman would be a way cheaper option as Atalanta are ready to let him leave for a fee of around £43m.

However, purchasing the Atalanta star won’t be straightforward for Arteta’s side as Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, West Ham, and Napoli are also keen on securing his service.

Lookman previously struggled to showcase his best in the Premier League during his time with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City. He even displayed underwhelming performances at RB Leipzig.

However, he has flourished in his career since joining Atalanta back in 2022 and has established himself as one of the most dangerous forwards in Serie A.

The 27-year-old made 26 goal contributions across all competitions in the last two seasons and guided La Dea to overcome more than six decades of trophy droughts by helping them win the Europa League in the 2023/24 season.

Lookman scored an emphatic hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, who were on course to win the treble in that campaign.

Despite his previous struggles in the Premier League, Lookman has become a more polished player at the moment. So, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, Eze is a Premier League proven player, and Arsenal could be better off signing him over Lookman to bolster the frontline.
